Overview
The Construction Foreman plays a key leadership role on the job site, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring the project progresses according to schedule, and maintaining a safe, productive work environment. The Foreman coordinates and supervises the work of the construction crew, ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to project plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervision: Lead and manage construction teams, including laborers, skilled tradespeople, and subcontractors, ensuring all work is performed efficiently and to specifications.
- Scheduling: Develop and maintain a daily work schedule, assigning tasks to team members and adjusting plans to meet project deadlines.
- Project Execution: Ensure construction activities are completed according to blueprints, project plans, and specifications provided by the Project Manager or Engineer.
- Safety Oversight: Enforce safety standards on-site, conducting regular safety meetings, inspections, and ensuring the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Quality Control: Inspect work in progress to ensure quality, and address any issues related to materials, workmanship, or compliance with codes and standards.
- Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot on-site issues, finding solutions to unexpected problems or delays, and communicating with the Project Manager when necessary.
- Equipment and Materials: Manage the inventory of materials and tools, ensuring equipment is in proper working condition and supplies are available when needed.
- Team Development: Provide guidance and support to crew members, offering on-the-job training and development to ensure skill growth and efficiency.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of daily activities, including worker attendance, task completion, material usage, and incidents. Provide reports to the Project Manager as needed.
- Communication: Act as the main point of contact between the crew and upper management, ensuring that instructions and updates are effectively communicated.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- 5+ years of construction experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or foreman role.
- Hands-on experience with construction practices, methods, and techniques.
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED required; certification in construction management or relevant field preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong leadership and communication abilities.
- Thorough understanding of construction processes, blueprints, and safety regulations.
- Ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work on construction sites in various weather conditions.
